Limited-time offer: 80 GHz radar level sensor

Increasing plant availability and safety with online level measurement efficiency

Why do I need to measure the level of my silo?

An effective inventory management requires fast and reliable access to the amount of product available. Manual measurements are time and labour-consuming, increasing operation costs and risks associated to working at heights and exposure to toxic and explosive areas.

How to monitor the content of my silo in real-time

There are different technologies available for level measurement in silos, from electromechanical transducers to 3D scanners, each of them with a particular advantage and disadvantage.

One of the most common technologies used for level measurement in silos is by using free-space radars. The main advantage of this method is its simple installation, easy commissioning and the fact it's not in contact with the product.

How is the measurement performed?

The sensor sends an electromagnetic wave (80 GHz frequency) towards the product. Once the wave hits the solids surface it's reflected and travels back to the transmitter. The time the wave takes to travel is proportional to the distance between the sensor and the product surface.

Is the measurement affected by dust?

The new generation of free-space radars such as the FMR67 combine 80 GHz operational frequency with advanced filtering algorithms, becoming a robust and reliable resource even in dusty applications.

3 ways continuous level measurement can improve your bulk solids operation

Increased safety
Online measurement significantly improves safety by eliminating the need of manual measurements, reducing risks such as: working at heights, engulfment, risk of falling into the silo, exposure to toxic gases or confined spaces, fires and explosions, and overfilling.
Improved plant efficiency
Real time measurement in silos gives you a good understanding of your process, allowing the optimisation of production and storage planning. Use software solutions to forecast material movements and orders encompassing all your logistical requirements.
Fast identification of utilisation issues
Fast response time and accurate continuous level indication in silos can give you information on if filling and emptying routines are running correctly. For example, a frozen level measurement in during discharge and emptying can indicate bridging or problems in product transfer.
